Urgent Exec meeting due to having to discuss whether the End of Season party should go ahead. Only 3 of us could make it, but we decided that it was too urgent to delay.

Action: Stella to liaise with Dave Warren and order the right number of trophies (engraved with the award where possible).

End of season party

We have sold 33 adult tickets and 2 children (and therefore have £505 to spend). Cumnor Cricket Club could do us food pretty much for whatever price we name (we think!). Obviously with such low numbers it isn't going to be much of a party, so let's look at other options.

We discussed this and decided to try to proceed with the following option:
Charge £5 (give people a £10 note back on the night). For that people will get:
  • a softball game (in late pm/early evening)
  • Roger's bouncy castle
  • the awards
  • BBQ or buffet
  • stay on for drinks

For those who do not want to do this, we give them their £15 back (as soon as we can). Norm to send emails out and give people the option. (At time of writing Norm had sent the email at 16:07 on Weds 6th Sept).

The deadline for asking for money back is Mon 11th at 5pm.

Awards

We went through the awards (not to be posted here as some of them should be surprise to the recipients!)

Notes:
Batting and pitching awards were calculated on the recipient having had to have played at least 6 games (half or half+1 total games).

The awards are:
  • Best batter (male/female/div1/div2) calculated on batting average
  • Home run (male/female/div1/div2) calculated on total home runs scored
  • Best fielders (male/female/div1/div2) calculated on nominations by opposing teams (also - probably wrongly - called MVPs: this is how they are presented on the web site)
  • Pitching award (male/*/div1/div2) calculated on Pitching Average (seems to be the fairest way)
    * There were not enough innings pitched by women to merit an award
  • Best Rookies (2 for the whole league) based on nominations from other teams (very sporting this year as people had nominated players from other teams!)
  • MVPs (male/female/div1/div2) calculated by taking the 5 best batters (by sex and division) and looking at who, out of those, had the most fielding award nominations. Where there was a tie, the player with the highest batting average takes the award.
    [Note: Subsequent to these minutes being issued, we had an alternative idea for the MVP award. See Norm's message to the Captains of 8 Sept 09]
